Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have added another feather to their cap as the most successful opening pair in Test cricket history. The duo scored a record-breaking 412-run stand in the first innings of the third Test against England at Lord's in 2023, surpassing the previous best of 410 by Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy in 1956. Sharma and Jaiswal have been in sublime form since they started opening together in late 2022, and have registered six century partnerships and four double-century partnerships in 15 Tests. They have also scored more than 2000 runs each at an average of over 60, with Sharma hitting eight hundreds and Jaiswal seven. Their partnership at Lord's was a masterclass of patience, skill and temperament, as they batted for more than two days and faced 677 deliveries. They frustrated the England bowlers with their solid defence and selective aggression, and took India to a commanding position in the match. Sharma scored 236, his highest Test score, while Jaiswal made 211, his second double hundred in Tests. They received a standing ovation from the crowd and their teammates as they walked back to the pavilion, having etched their names in the annals of cricket history.
